What are Theresa May's plans after stepping down as MP? Retirement? Some awkward dancing? Hanging out in a field of wheat?

No, she wants to build herself a legacy. But her project isn’t saving anyone ⤵️🧵 1/6

Yesterday Ayushman and I published a piece with openDemocracy on the Global Slavery Commission.

Today I got a response from an FOI request which revealed that the UK government is spending 500,000 pounds on the Commission. 1/3

We are signatory to this statement along with HumanTraffickingFdn and 50+ others asking all candidates running for to pledge to prioritise modern slavery. There must be a concrete commitment to work on supporting survivors and preventing them from coming to any further harm ⤵️

As the head of her own commission, May will be the wrong saleswoman flogging the wrong product to the wrong people at the wrong time 🧐

We welcome Stephen Kinnock’s letter to Rt Hon Michael Tomlinson MP on the need to address risks of exploitation on work visas, and invest in labour market enforcement

'The Global Commission is funded by the governments of the UK and Bahrain – countries both known for having abusive policies towards migrants and migrant labour – and chaired by Theresa May, known for her hostility to vulnerable migrants.'

new piece with Ayushman for Beyond Slavery

No one asked for a Global Commission on Modern Slavery. Theresa May should have stayed at home, rather than trying to put the band back together to sing the old classics yet one more time....

We recently contributed to the ICIBI report into treatment of care workers. Rather than one which bans migrants being with loved ones, we need a system which prevents them being exploited, and allows the freedom to leave unscrupulous employers

🎥 A busy week for us as we marked 1️⃣2️⃣ long years since Theresa May changed the terms of the ODW visa trapping workers with abusive employers. We were so pleased to see so many faces at our coffee morning and reminded ourselves we are strongest when we come together…
