Congrats to Michael Cory, PhD for being awarded the Kanefield Prize for Research Penn BGS! Michael’s dissertation work on bacterial DNA repair via the SOS response pathway provides key insights to help combat antibiotic resistance, a major concern among #CysticFibrosis patients.
We had a wonderful time at this year’s Penn Epigenetics retreat! So very many great talks and posters 🤩 Shoutout to Christian Loo on winning a poster prize!
Hey BBCB Graduate Group UPenn Dept of Biochem & Biophys labs, did you hear? We’re COOL 😎. Be like us! #GetVaccinated !
And then #RideTheSHOTWAVE by posting a picture of your bandaid to help others get access to vaccines!
Congrats to Penn Arts & Sciences rising senior & Kohli lab undergraduate researcher Jasleen Gill for being chosen as a Roy and Diana Vagelos Science Challenge Award recipient! This award is a testament to her outstanding work in the sciences. We’re super proud of you, Jasleen Gill! 🏆🎉👩🔬
Congratulations to our newest PhD candidate Aleksia Barka for successfully passing her BBCB Graduate Group prelim exam (and doing it before officially starting grad school, no less)!
Being able to limit the size & control the copy number of genomic information in a human artificial chromosome would be a major step forward...and here it is! 🧑🦰🤖🧬 See below for must-read work from the lab of Ben Black UPenn Dept of Biochem & Biophys Penn Center for Genome Integrity 👇 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Excited to share our new paper ACS Publications! We melded our biochemistry expertise + CisnerosResearch computational expertise to turn a natural DNA methyltransferase (MTase) into a neomorphic DNA carboxy-MTase with novel substrate selectivity🧬. See the tweetorial below for more👇
Congratulations to Wumesh KC (Penn Cardiology), Ted Kreider (@WeissmanLab) & Elizabeth Traxler (@PennCancer) on being selected as members of the 1st cohort of the @Penn Measey Scholars in Molecular Medicine Program!🎉 Learn more➡️ molmedscholars.org
Many thanks to our team of collaborators, particularly Integrated DNA Technologies & Hao Wu | 吴昊, who helped DM-Seq grow into a novel base-resolution sequencing method with potential for clinical impact. Thanks also to National Human Genome Research Institute for support & Genome Tech Dev Coordinating Center for featuring DM-Seq in the video below.
Can the enzymes that write #DNA modifications be turned into readers of #epigenetic modification states? Excited to share the answer is 'yes!' Read more about our all enzymatic & nondestructive method for mapping DNA methylation in Nature Chemical Biology #runDMSeq nature.com/articles/s4158…
