8 Days to got to the Afems2019. Keynote speakers are Patricia McFadden and Kharnita Mohamed . The conference will host creative dialogues with South African curator Natasha Becker and dancer/choreographer Mamela Nyamza, an art exhibition as well as two performance evenings.

The Afems conference is part of grander project- Art On Our Mind, that is dedicated to archiving the work of black womxn artists and illumining the ways in which womxn have crafted narratives counter to popular patriarchal rhetorics. The conference runs from 5-7 September.

Agency is a contested political terrain. Whilst womxn have made visible gains, we exist in a persistently patriarchal society, wherein agency has not translated into a shift of the he status quo and its inherently racist and hetero-sexist ideals.
