💰 Financial independence and #genderequality .
👫 It’s complex and deep rooted.

Not all women who have jobs have access to their money.
But even those who do, face a widening #genderpaygap with age, resulting in the gender pension gap.

Spain, Belgium and Hungary, currently the Presidency trio, reaffirm their commitment to advancing gender equality. A joint declaration, symbolically signed today, outlines seven commitments.

I call on the EU Council & European Parliament to support the European Commission proposal to recognise this crime under EU law, as part of the law on combating #ViolenceAgainstWomen and #DomesticViolence .

#IstanbulConvention enters into force for the EU on 1 October. With this, the EU officially:
☑️Recognises that #ViolenceAgainstWomen is a violation of human rights
☑️Renews & deepens its commitment to preventing violence, protecting/supporting victims & prosecuting perpetrators

International #EqualPay Day

As President Ursula von der Leyen said in her #SOTEU speech, there is not a single argument why for the same type of work, a woman should be paid less than a man. With the new Directive on #PayTransparency we have cast this basic principle into EU law.

EU Council adopted a General Approach on European Commission's proposal.

We hope more Member States join 🇧🇪🇮🇹🇬🇷🇱🇺's call to criminalise rape based on lack of consent of the victim.

I welcome EU Council 's General Approach on proposed Directive on combating #ViolenceAgainstWomen & domestic violence.
I now call on European Parliament & all MSs to ensure that final Directive criminalises rape based on lack of consent of the victim
