Another thing that struck me throughout my time with Jefferson County Schools's educators was how excited they were about math, how much they love math (literally) and how badly they want children to learn math.

I learned that middle school is a transition period in math, where students are moving into abstract concepts and that middle school teachers have to be that bridge. TBH, I was surprised by how engaged their middle schoolers were!

I spent 5 days with Leslie C Richards, Ed.D & Jessica Silas & their middle school math coaches, sitting in on a district coaching training with Cathy Gassenheimer, a math-coach-only training and then spent 3 days shadowing math coaches at their school.
