Last stop is Penrhyn Castle NT/YG Castell Penrhyn and its nearby slate quarry. This 19thC Neo-Norman castle was funded by the riches of the family's slave plantation in Jamaica. The proliferation of Penrhyn slate roofs throughout India and Jamaica testify to the assertion of British power abroad ⛵

First stop Dinorwic Slate Quarry, the second largest in the world. Tramways carried slate down to the lake, where it was taken on to Caernarfon to be shipped. 🪨 #Worldheritage

Amgueddfa Lechi Cymru | National Slate Museum We're now hearing about ExtraSchicht - an annual one-night-only festival in the Ruhr region of Germany. The festival celebrates the coal and steel heritage of the area, with one ticket giving access to 19 cities connected by bus and train throughout the night. 🎇🎆
