Why is the Horn of Africa experiencing drought after drought, even though climate models predict it to get wetter? Check out our new paper showing results of the extraordinary Lake sediment record!

Why would we look 75,000 years in the past to learn something about modern droughts in the Horn of Africa? Our new paper, published today in Nature, explains why. A thread! (1/9)

Oh my word, a prelim. magnitude 7.8 earthquake in southeastern Turkey just now. The epicentre is near to the Syrian border where there is quite a high population density. Even before we get more info, you know this isn’t going to be good. My thoughts are with everyone caught up
