This was an excellent panel, demonstrating both the differences and the commonalities of our respective #skills challenges in Africa, Southeast Asia, Latin America and Europe. Thanks, Manuela Geleng of EU Social 🇪🇺 for moderating and Pedro Moreno Fonseca of International Labour Organization for preparing this.

Traineeships help young people into jobs and companies to find new talent and skills.

We propose that traineeships offer a good learning experience, fair pay, social protection.

This will also help companies address labour & skills shortages.

There is no competitiveness without #talent … or #people ! 🇪🇺

With 3.5 million workers already trained, the Pact is ensuring that the EU’s green and digital transition creates jobs in Europe.

To plug the EU’s labour and skills shortages, together with Thierry Breton we launched the Pact for Skills.

Public and private actors together map what skills gaps exist and commit to providing training opportunities.

The results are very promising!

'Traineeships cannot be for free.
European Commission proposes a 🇪🇺 Directive which states that there must be no abuse of traineeships through disguised work relationships. Trainees should be paid. There will be enforcement of this.'
