A very cool finding by Brett in Imaging and Analysis. This Scomberomorus semifasciatus specimen we have on loan from NaturalHistoryDK has its last meal preserved inside! #TeamFish
Another amazing day running SEM workshops for #EarthBound with Kate Bellis. The super students at Anthony Gell School were keen to learn about this tick that bit me earlier in the year. Outrageous mouthparts, you can see how they hang on so well. Hitachi_STEM Imaging and Analysis Longcliffe Quarries Ltd
I have been working with Louise Colville from Kew Science to select the best instrument we have at the Imaging and Analysis to study the inner structures of various seed. I suggested two methods (see video) 1/2
This week #teamfish have been CT scanning in Imaging and Analysis. Here are two remarkably well preserved scombrid fossils from the Eocene of the Isle of Sheppey #FossilFriday
The Imaging and Analysis have completed tests using the confocal microscope on a dedicated flea and have shown that they can output a 3D model…here is the confocal image… #3Dprinting #flea #model
This rare anglerfish specimen contains a secret. Researchers from Natural History Museum and Imaging and Analysis used Micro-CT scans to create this 3D rendering. Nested within its skeleton (beige) was an intact sawtoothed eel (blue), devoured tail first, helping unveil their dietary mysteries.
Here is the tip of a House Spider’s leg from today, great detail in the tarsal claws. For the past few weeks I have been running Scanning Electron Microscopy workshops across all age groups with Kate Bellis.

Stunning blue #whale ('Hope' from Imaging and Analysis) & vaquita (see tiny grey blob) mandibles from our data set (left pic). Unlike in toothed whales, baleen whale mandibles are not fused (right pic). I have been working on code to make sure we capture this diversity. Smithsonian NMNH #postdoclife 🐳

For the past two weeks I've been visiting Natural History Museum NHM Meteorites Imaging and Analysis looking at FGRs in CO chondrite meteorites. Thanks to Europlanet 🇪🇺 for supporting my research! I have already submitted an abstract for #EMAS2022 with some of the data I collected so far!
Having an amazing time Imaging and Analysis with Dr Alex Ball and Dr Alex Hyde. We have seen pollen and bees as never before. Truly amazing.
