Yesterday, Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Education visited Highland Park Elem. School to celebrate 50 years since adopting the firefly as PA's state insect. In 1974, 3rd graders at the school recommended the firefly as the state insect & on April 10, 1974, the firefly was adopted by the General Assembly!

During #NationalLibraryWeek , it is important to celebrate these special places and encourage learners to take advantage of all that libraries have to offer. From books and e-books to classes and events, libraries are truly the heart of the community.

Last week, I had the opportunity to speak at the 5th Annual BELL Summit to discuss how we can improve supports for young children experiencing homelessness. Thank you HopePHL for hosting this important event.

Yesterday, I was joined by Deputy Secretary Kate Shaw on a visit to LCCC. We witnessed first-hand how students have opportunities to check out diverse career paths, setting them on a path to success when they enter the workforce.

I had the opportunity yesterday to join local students and families as PA Department of Education hosted a FAFSA completion workshop. Everyone should have a fair chance to pursue their dreams of higher education.

By filling out the FAFSA, students may qualify for financial aid.

Last week, I visited Millersville University to learn about their STEM programs! I am so excited to see how Governor Josh Shapiro's Blueprint for Higher Education will make programs like this more accessible + affordable while allowing schools to continue to focus on educating ALL learners.
