Thrilled for this honour of Sir Nick & the recognition of his service in pursuit of social justice. LIW 🎥 is not only a fitting tribute to the Rivonia Trialists + defence team but it is a call to action to all. We’re proud to be able to show it as part of our education programme

Today marks the anniversary of the start of the Bristol Bus Boycott.

61 years ago, elders in our community fought against racial discrimination and paved the way for the UK’s Race Relations Acts of 1965 & 1968.

The courage & power they showed will inspire us today and always 👊🏿

'Day of Freedom, first democratic elections,
Signalled a shift of past oppressions.
For those once silenced, robbed of votes and voices,
A time of healing, their newfound choices'

30 years ago today the first votes were cast in South Africa's first non-racial election - in S. Africa by the frail and disabled that day, and also by exiles abroad. Glasgow City Chambers was a polling place for exiles, and the Anti-Apartheid Movement was an official observer.

“Don’t we have enough racists here now?”

A reminder of the racial and imperial politics of air travel, focusing on the campaign to deny South African Airways landing rights in Houston in 1982.

I was in last yr school when took place. The nuns thought black people were coming to Jo'burg to attack white folk & shut the gates. Reverse of truth! I set 'One Day, Lily, One Day' in OUT OF BOUNDS in school like mine altho Lily's fam involved in resistance
