Trip out for Loughborough Geography and Environment masters students to Natural England Ainsdale site to obverse Dr Jonathan Millett Dr Ciara Dwyer Long term experiments & importance of vegetation & dune management for biodiversity
Sand dune slack (pond) matrix provides habitat for natterjack toad & invertebrates
Some exciting news! Kate Mathers, Paul Wood, and I have an CENTA rep placement for an undergraduate to observe the ecological recovery of macroinvertebrate communities in agricultural sediment ponds with Loughborough Geography and Environment. For more info see the link:

An end to an extremely busy March. Presenting Rothamsted Research at the annual conference, assisting CENTA with the #SpeedPhD2024 in #macroinvertebrate diversity in urban streams & finally ending with presenting some of my early #PhD finding Royal Entomological Society #SF24
Morgan Morrison Royal Holloway Newcastle University Newcastle University Rob Calvert University of Sussex Our next speaker is Charlie Patel Charlie Patel, Loughborough University, sharing some brilliant research on the #biodiversity of #agricultural ponds and the distribution of the Corixidae, Cymatia rogenhoferi in the UK.

Epic week exploring the #ScottishHighlands collecting water samples for #eDNA analysis and #macroinvertebrate samples! Exciting to see what #fish are found from the #watersamples 🐟
Day 2 of the #CENTA #SpeedPhD fieldwork to look at changing #macroinvertebrate #biodiversity in the River Chelt & Lilley Brook and how different flow regimes can influence communuties with James White
Processing and identifying some of my #pond #macroinvertebrate samples taken from sediment ponds and come across this wonderful specimen. A Dytiscidae (Diving beetle) larvae preserved mid-shedding 😍. A lovely fimd for the day #biodiversity #PhD #ecology #aquatic
I'm at #LboroResConf23 today presenting my Loughborough Geography and Environment MSc research! Come see me at number 26 :)
Exciting!! Look what’s popped up at #LboroResConf23 🧪🥼 Come and drop by to find out how to get involved with #PublicOutreach at Pint of Science UK Loughborough 2024!
Representing Loughborough Geography and Environment at #LboroResConf23 come and talk to me about my research on sediment ponds & biodiversity located at number 48! #ecology #biodiversity #ponds #agriculture

A video from one of the landowners I have worked with in #Herefordshire who created #sediment #ponds to tackle runoff from the upstream farm which caused this event during #StormBabet . The upstream farmer has no #mitigation , more needs to be done to tackle events like this.
After a year Loughborough Geography and Environment the land access & #Pond #fieldwork is done! Thanks katie Rachel Cooper for sampling #Hereford & #Southwest sediment ponds. The mitigation for sediment loss varies drastically & it will be interesting to compare #macroinvertebrate #biodiversity .
This week I've been out with @Charlie_Patel17 on his southwest fieldwork. The #macroinvertebrate samples are impressive and diverse, seeing a 50mm #Dytiscidae in one. It was also a great opportunity to see the work of the #BelmontEstate connecting the #RiverYeo to the #floodplain
Another fieldwork outing sampling sediment ponds in #Cumbria . Interesting contrast of design & use of sediment ponds to protect #salmonid habitats. Thanks to Alisha Higgins, Natural England, Kate Mathers & all the farms involved. Can't forget about the pigs either.
