This ruling is disappointing and frustrating. The #lalege did what was right, but this last attempt to stop progress was not based on facts.

A 5th Circuit panel struck down Jeff Landry Congressional map he held a whole special session on. Ironically, a group of white voters complained about Landry's map. They have until May 15 or the Court will impose a map. Sound familiar?

ALERT: A federal district court in Louisiana ruled 2-1 that the legislature’s new map remedying an undeniably unconstitutional racial gerrymander is unlawful. To be clear, this map replaces one that deliberately dilutes the voting power of Louisiana’s Black voters.

LDF filed an amicus brief today in support of the plaintiffs in Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians et al. v. Michael Howe, Secretary of State of North Dakota, a major voting rights case pending in the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.

The #lalege Crime Session proposals add up to at least $59 million impact on the budget, with only a vague connection to preventing new crimes. Nothing on housing, jobs, education, mental health care, or treatment for substance use.

UPDATE: In a victory for fair maps, a federal court today ruled in favor of Louisiana voters, agreeing that the current state House and Senate district maps violate Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act.
