Zimbabwe has declared a state of disaster over a drought that has left over more than 2.5 million people facing hunger.

It becomes the third country in southern Africa - after Zambia and Malawi - to declare an emergency.

The 2023- 2024 season is not looking good for communal farmers who rely on rain fed agriculture. The El nino effect is being felt in most parts of Zimbabwe. There is need to move away from hybridised seeds to OPV and farm saved seed that are more resilient to climate change.
