.Peter Bazalgette: The BBC’s job is to hold the government to account, so the government is going to resent them, we should expect that, but in the end common sense has always asserted itself

.Peter Bazalgette: 20 years ago reality and talent shows were new genres but we haven’t had a new genre in a while. When first started it vastly improved media literacy in the country

.Peter Bazalgette: The online harms bill won’t make the internet easily regulated. You can pass the law and it might make some difference, but regulating the internet is a massive challenge

.Peter Bazalgette: Arguing about the BBC’s mechanism is fine but that’s all you hear. There’s all sorts of reasons why we want the BBC and that’s why we’re discussing how to fund it, because we want to preserve the BBC

.Peter Bazalgette: The soaps examine social issues, things we care about, things we're uncertain about - you don’t get that with internationally appealing programming. You need that rich culture. It is important to have a healthy ecology that delivers those programmes

.Peter Bazalgette: Every year the schedule gets smaller, the number of people watching grows, and the number of streaming services grows, so the bulk of the output of PSB media will mostly be streamed in the future - BBC iPlayer, @All4 and ITVX

.James Loveridge: the way Twitter monetises video is very different to other platforms and it’s hard to make it work. They don’t seem to focus on their video so neither do we

Lucy Luke: You need to make sure that when you’re commissioning that you have someone in the room representing the digital space. That way you can start thinking about the edit and how you will send the content out

.James Loveridge: You can never predict what content will do well. Our fastest growing TikTok account for a while was River Monsters and it was about fishing. It’s the youth’s platform but… fishing!

.James Loveridge: If it’s fan oriented content don’t look at it as piracy, look at it as useful data. Claim it and monetise it, but also maybe look at what platform it’s on and why it’s connecting

.James Loveridge: We had a livestream about beekeeping for Discovery Channel UK that got stuck looping the first 3 seconds. But viewing went through the roof so we just stuck with it

.Matt Risley: 8/9 years ago, commissioners tried taking YouTubers and putting them on TV in a more linear format. It didn’t work. The content wasn’t great and the audiences didn’t move with them

Neil Price: The thing that drove the uptake of YouTube Premium was the features e.g. YouTube Music. We already have 2 billion monthly active users so unlike other SVoD platforms we don’t have to ask ourselves: why would someone keep paying for this?

Neil Price, Strategic Partner Manager, UK Partnerships, YouTube: A friend of mine asked her younger sister who her favourite YouTube creators were and she said: Holly and Phil. Who would have thought that This Morning would be a YouTube sensation?
