Having been 'inconvenienced' by Napoleon, Howe Peter Browne, 2nd Marquess of Sligo, finally arrives in Paris in April 1814. His stay on the continent was brought about by a desire to escape the scandal of a vastly different stay, in Newgate Prison!

From our current exhibition at the Russell Library on women in the book trade, Martina Plantin was the daughter of the founder of the Plantin Press and it is still possible to visit the Museum Plantin-Moretus press today.

Here we see her listed as ‘viduam…’ on the imprints.

What’s better than one early book from the press with its distinctive titlepage? …an earlier casually alongside it!

Two giants of the printing press bound together available now📚
