We’ve launched our brand-new fatigue management course last month which is digitally available to all individuals working in policing across England and Wales. If you struggle with fatigue, the course might be able to help: oscarkilo.org.uk/news/fatigue-r…

Sarah - Jayne so good to see the Soteria findings from Pillar 4 being presented at the well-being week. This is the most up to date analysis and it is so interesting. Such important work! Open University Police Education OU-Police-Centre

#WeCops Maybe something like a squad rotation system like they have in ⚽️ for eg…resourcing doesn’t allow for it at present but taking people off the pitch so to speak for a rest from it all to refresh & go again when the next ‘player’ needs the aforementioned & avoiding burnout

#WeCops Educate colleagues/supervisors to spot signs of stress & intervene to prevent + good OHSU support. A brilliant DI & DS rolled out peer support to 200 staff to help spot signs. It can catch up on those least expecting it. Need to bust stigma of asking 4 help.

#WeCops Senior leaders need to be proactive in ensuring that workloads of our investigation teams are managable. We cannot continue to increase the workload on our people if demand continues to increase.

Interesting point. We know from recent PIP2 data that we have far more detectives in post than before, accredited and trainees and yet it doesnt 'feel' that way which could indicate a few things - they arent in the right place or numbers dont match demand

its why we built a requirement to understand demand into the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) HMICFRS Investigator Resilience Plan. We are working with academic colleagues to understand modelling opportunities that can support forces in this area

#WeCops Finding time to step out of the rat race. Working away from HQ/remotely. Feeling that others see you as weak for seeking support. It still seems a little taboo, esp. for older-in-service cops. Some are still cynical about the job’s motives or whether the offer is genuine.

#WeCops I still think that at times in some of our investigation teams have a long hours ‘macho’ type culture and a reluctance to seek help- I think this is starting to change though

#WeCops Time. We don’t make time for ourselves as we push to meet the demands of the public, and of the force.

We don’t want to let the side down.

So we sacrifice ourselves so others may gain.

We need to commit to making time and removing that as a blocker.

important point to note, we have lost something in the broadening of our language around investigators - all officers are investigators, not just our detectives and PSIs.
