Exciting work on false electrical capture during transcutaneous pacing for unstable bradycardia. We found many patients transported by an EMS system in NY had false capture.

Takeaway: new strategies (other than pulse palpation) needed to reliably verify capture. Joshua Kimbrell

More thoughts on why Head Up CPR isnā€™t ready for Widespread Adoption.

Apologies for the title, it didnā€™t get cleaned up in copy editing.

Pretty excited about this one...thanks to David Olveraā€‹ and the team for working on this. Well-designed checklists with an eye toward HFE can be helpful in prehospital/CCT airway management

Updated ACLS guidance recommends against the routine use of calcium and bicarb. We need to focus on what has been proven to save lives, which is high-performance CPR and timely defibrillation.

ResuscitationAcademy said it best. Where you live should not determine IF you live.

Mark Staveley recently experienced sudden cardiac arrest, and Seattle firefighter/EMTs and paramedics responded promptly to the scene. Over the weekend, he was able to reunite with some of the SFD members who helped to provide life-saving treatment. (1/2)

Thanks for the great review of Bonnie Snyder, MD's work on use of small adult ventilation bags during cardiac arrest.

We plan to measure tidal volume in a subset of patients in the FACT study: newsroom.uw.edu/news-releases/ā€¦.

Debating rocuronium vs. succinylcholine for RSI?

New research from shows that within Seattle Fire Dept. they have similar Cormack-Lehane grades, first-pass success, & rates of peri-intubation hypoxemia.

I agree w Demetris Yannopoulos. 'There is no concordant preclinical evidence to support any widespread clinical application of the device and independent verification... is warranted before this intervention is even tested in cardiac arrest patients.'

Super proud: Bonnie Snyder, MD leveled up in Tableau, Molly Van Dyke wrote Stata code to measure peak ETCO2 for each breath, & Catherine R. Counts encouraged Stryker Emergency Care to update the breath detector code.

Next step is to measure tidal volumes. Stay tuned.

A long time coming to publish these findings!

TLDR: Use of a small adult ventilation bag during OHCA was associated with lower odds of ROSC at the end of EMS care, an unexpected finding.

Metronomes during work!
I'm excited to share our recent publication showing that when a metronome is on during an , the CPR rate is more controlled. Thanks to for the opportunity to work on this project.

Dr. Cobb relentlessly worked to improve the system of emergency cardiac care. From patient #1 he reviewed what went well and what might be done better. His humility and sharp assessment encouraged others to believe in his vision. I am grateful to have known and learned from him.
