A mucosal #antibody called #SIgA can bind to bacterial surface proteins, triggering an immune response to improve infection outcomes. But these interactions are poorly understood.

Although the role of antibodies is universal, the structure varies in different animals. In a new study, researchers analyzed the antibody Immunoglobulin M in rainbow trout to shed some light on why these proteins have evolved over time.
