Great new research by my colleague Tania A Reynolds on how people are morally biased against men, in the sense of devaluing male suffering compared to female suffering.

In this talk*, I argue that the selective forces posed by same-sex peers likely amplified sex differences in traits.

*presented at The Big Conversation, which invited scholars studying sex differences from both evolutionary and sociocultural perspectives

Cool example of evolved female female competition- dung beetle females compete for access to dung (more dung balls= better and higher quality offspring) by fighting with horns that evolved separately from the horns of males Tania A Reynolds

Great times at this weekend in Santa Fe, NM. I moderated a discussion about the science of sex/gender and was really impressed with the civility and desire for mutual understanding. They modeled how it can be done.

New paper on how sex ratio influences female body image! My colleagues and I found that women in female-skewed environments experience stronger body dissatisfaction & dieting motivations than women in male-skewed environments drive.google.com/file/d/13y4YzY… Jean Forney

I write for @piratewires on sex differences, the evolution of women's friendship, loyalty signaling and terrible online relationship advice.

How do women compete with each other for men & status?
What are the evolutionary origins of female-female rivalry, gossip, & virtue-signaling?

My colleague Tania Reynolds (Tania A Reynolds ) does fascinating research on these questions. Here she's interviewed by Dan Riley.

New paper! Gender bias in harm acceptance. We find people more readily support interventions inflicting collateral damage on men (vs women). This bias might explain why early medical treatments were only examined among men, causing long-term harm to women.

Fascinating! Recently, my colleagues and I published an article on the moralization of Covid responses. People discouraged scientific research on whether Covid elimination efforts carried more costs than benefits, so we couldn't even ask these questions: drive.google.com/file/d/1-JPbhw…

Loved hearing about Tania A Reynolds’s work on punitive responses to, moral outrage at, and perceptions of accuracy of arguments about weighing costs and benefits of Covid-19 management strategies

Had a great conversation with Chris Williamson on the Modern Wisdom podcast! We discussed women's friendships, female competition, apathy for male suffering, corrosion of cross-sex cooperation, slut shaming, strategies of gossip, and female body image.

Women use gossip as their primary weapon to fight for mates.

I spoke to expert Tania A Reynolds this weekend to learn everything I could.

We also discussed the evolution of homosexuality, whether men desire thinness, and the ways beauty can backfire.

Enjoy.

Out now in Behavior Genetics Association: genes associated with higher education are selected against, i.e., passed onto fewer offspring.

The direction of this selection pressure is reversed in older mothers, i.e., first child at > ~22 years old.
