Mandate holders UN Special Procedures have also been affected by the UN liquidity crisis. Even more understaffed and we can only conduct 1 country visit instead of 2 this year. Member States must pay their dues so that all UN human rights experts can perform their duties properly.

On the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, I remind States that #racism , including its intersectional dimensions, is a key cause of contemporary forms of #slavery . I urge them to intensify their efforts in tackling it more effectively.

Annual profits from forced labour in the private sector amount to $236 billion, underscoring the need to enhance human rights due diligence. We also need to address the demand for cheap goods among consumers which facilitates labour exploitation.

I am deeply disappointed that the #EU Corporate Sustainability & Due Diligence Directive #CSDDD was not adopted by EU Council yet again. The EU's leadership & commitment to eradicate contemporary forms of #slavery are now being questioned. I urge Member States to change course.
