If there’s one thing about labour we can learn from the COVID-19 pandemic is that there were never any essential workers.

There were essential jobs, but the workers performing them were expendable, not essential.

I’m going to add a very uncomfortable thought to this. As an ICU doc, & a nephrologist I see both sides of this. I have become increasingly uncomfortable with how many donors die from opiate poisoning. They come from a socioeconomic class that would never qualify to receive one.
