This Friday (05/01), 14:00-15:00 CET, the Pioneer Centre for AI hosts a guest talk by Josef Valvoda titled “When Neural Networks Meet the Law” 🧑⚖️(aicentre.dk/events/talk-wh…). The talk will take place in the Seminar Room at P1 (Øster Voldgade 3, 1350 København K).
Are you interested in word lengths and natural language’s efficiency? If yes, our new #EMNLP2023 paper has everything you need: drama, suspense, a new derivation of Zipf’s law, an update to Piantadosi et al’s classic word length paper, transformers... 🧵

Modeling the interaction between tokens is vital to NLP. It takes quadratic time—every pair of tokens needs to be compared.
Our #EMNLP2023 paper shows that, by casting this problem as sorting, this complexity can be reduced to linear—just like you can sort n numbers in O(n).
This looks pretty wild! I wonder how well would it work for legal case retrieval? WDYT NLLP Workshop
