Why do employers offer flexible jobs? To help workers find work-life balance or to shift cost & risk?

Compelling evidence that firms use flexibility as a way to reduce labour costs --- we find a significant increase in flexible & non-salaried jobs with the intro of the NLW, consistent with Nikhil Datta Giulia Giupponi Stephen Machin find for ZHCs in social care 5/n
Results point to the importance of themes raised in @RSAMatthew Good Work report & repeatedly raised by Jeremias Adams-Prassl & others. 7/n
Work with Teodora Boneva Marta Golin C.Rauh shows that those on flexible, insecure work arrangements have been hit harder economically by the Covid crisis --- we need to think very hard about how to generate more secure jobs in the recovery
