Lovely article in Quanta Magazine about our recent neutral hypothesis explaining why prokaryotes have never evolved complex multicellularity.

This isn't the simplest story to explain, and Veronique Greenwood did a great job making it widely accessible.

Our paper on the meaning of oral bacteria in feces is out in Nature Microbiology ! We suggest their increased relative abundance in the gut is due to depleted gut-resident bacteria, not their active growth. Huge thanks to Thierry Rolling , Ana, Tobias Hohl MD, PhD, Joao, and all collaborators!

An amazing piece of research by Jason Chen! You'd be missing out by choosing not to read this one. The pictures alone are worth it.

Sequencing directly from Rapid Antigen Test strips!

A major concern of Rapid Antigen Tests has been the loss of public health data such as virus sequencing

However, Rapid Tests do not have to imply a loss in Public Health Data - reporting and sequencing can still move…

Yes, this👇Calm down people. This is great news and we should applaud Support Our Science for their work to help make this happen. Now let's all work together towards the next step: increased overall funding so students, postdocs, and staff can get the salary they deserve.

I want to congratulate former student Hannah Strobel and our collaborators for this paper, our first directly studying the physical properties of our favorite protein, bacteriophage lambda's receptor-binding protein (J).
