Those purple heather hues!

Common heather, also known as ‘ling’, blooms with delicate purple flowers between August and October - making the backdrop for moorland walks, even more beautiful!

Another fantastic capture by local
photographer @nelsodale. Here we have a beautiful Little Owl.
They are generally most active at dawn and dusk, however they can be seen regularly basking in midday sunshine while on an exposed perch (from which they
can be prepared to hunt).

Another great sighting on the Wharfe by our River Keeper!

The beautiful and elusive Kingfisher sat on a perch it would usually fish from – the river running a little too fast for it in this case! They much prefer still or slow moving waters.

Next weekend we welcome Robin Hood and his merry men to the outdoor stage! Set beneath the Priory Ruins there will be tales of camaraderie, good against evil, swashbuckling action and riotous comedy in one of Illyria most popular shows!

While out on his morning checks yesterday, River Keeper Mark spotted this otter towards the southern end of the Estate. Otters are most active at dawn and dusk, so it’s rare to be rewarded with a mid-morning sighting. As quickly as it arrived, it disappeared back into the Wharfe.

Here’s one to test you – do you think the structure in the distance is the Aqueduct or Barden Bridge?

The river rushing through the Strid following lots of recent rainfall. Impressive to see and hear!

Visitors are advised not to get too close to the area as the rocks are very slippery.
