I’m a huge supporter of strong preservation for the rural coast (one Sea Ranch is more than enough), but it’s high time we treat the urban coast as…urban.

There are many reasons why 'family-sized' units aren't being built, but one contributing factor is that our zoning codes punish larger units. In many (most?) cities, parking requirements escalate with each bedroom—even though your kids probably don't need a space!

We like ADUs (aka casitas, granny flats, in-law units) here in San Diego.

And we're hopeful that once the 2023 numbers are finalized, we'll see even higher numbers than the 2021 peak!
