WHO Zimbabwe joined Ministry of HealthZW UNICEF ZIMBABWE AWET & others in Manicaland & Masvingo Provinces for high-level advocacy meetings with 80 Interfaith leaders focusing on their role in shifting religious & traditional practices to prevent cholera & encourage vaccination.
Cholera is an acute diarrhoeal infection caused by ingesting contaminated food or water.
However, it is easily treatable & preventable.

Handwashing with soap 🧼 & water 💦 prior to contact with food (e.g., during preparation, eating, or feeding), after contact with feces, and after providing care to those sick with cholera is necessary to help stop the spread of the disease 🦠

WHO Zimbabwe Country Representative DANGOU Jean-Marie with Incident Management team are in Hwange District supporting Cholera outbreak response activities. An Oral Rehydration Point was set up in Makwika Village which was a Cholera hotspot with WHO Zimbabwe and MSF_Zimbabwe support
Over 2.1 million people in Zimbabwe were reached with oral cholera vaccines, thanks to a campaign launched in January by Ministry of HealthZW, supported by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance WHO Zimbabwe & UNICEF ZIMBABWE. This is a major step forward in controlling the outbreak!

Today, with colleagues from WHO Zimbabwe, a Ministry of HealthZW team, I met Health authorities of Bulawayo Metropolitan & Mat North. The success factors driving the low number of cholera cases & key issues & challenges were discussed. We toured Thorngrove Infectious diseases hospital.
