‘Usually’ doing a lot of heavy lifting here in terms of Welsh Calan Mai folk traditions - it would be more accurate to state that maypoles rarely featured in the celebrations.

What you can be reassured of though is that ‘May rain kills lice’ (Gwlaw mis Mai a laddith lau) 🪳

Braint oedd medru rhannu rhyw fymryn o hanes y Maen Chwŷf efo Rhys Mwyn ar gyfer ei gyfrol newydd wych gan Gwasg Carreg Gwalch, a chael rhoi’r byd yn ei le am r’hen Myfyr Morganwg, sy’n haeddu tipyn mwy o gydnabyddiaeth am ei rôl hollbwysig yng nghronicl derwyddol Pontypridd.

Dr Delyth Badder brings us Welsh ghost stories, many in English for the first time.
Carwyn Graves asks why we use Welsh names/descriptions and what does that says about a cultural relationship with the land.
Translation. Literally.

This brilliant essay by sara huws gives much more context (with added personal reflection) on the Gwiddon to Gwyddoniaeth journey and is still the main source for anyone studying this. Glad it's still readable somewhere online: can add this to the citation to @Planet in my book!

This isn’t just a possibility - many of my former colleagues have already gone. Brilliant people, with invaluable expertise, knowledge and skills.

I hope the new Cabinet Secretary will grasp the seriousness of the situation and takes action.

Dr Delyth Badder featured in our 'Who's Afraid of the Dark?' blog. It got us wondering why we're so willing to enjoy the possibility of spooks and why their tales endure - some of them seen in English for the first time in this intriguing book calonbooks
