How can we overcome the polarization on climate action?

In a global experiment Nature Communications led by Mike Berkebile-Weinberg and Danielle Goldwert we tested 11 interventions in a large sample (N=51,224) recruited in 60 countries.

First paper out of my PhD published in Nature Communications 🥳

Henri Gruhl and I find that different types of climate protests (climate strikes & acts of civil disobedience) have been effective in increasing concerns about climate change in Germany.

🚨Incredibly excited to share our new *preprint* on perceptions of✨carbon footprint inequality✨

Across four countries 🇩🇰🇮🇳🇳🇬🇺🇸, our results reveal a widespread underestimation of within-country carbon footprint inequality, including among the wealthy🧵

Dealing with is the single most polarizing issue in the electorate

According to a new @Pew poll, only 12% or Republicans report that addressing climate change should be a top priority for the US this year compared to 59% of Democrats

My *first* first-authored paper is out! Alt-protein technologies (e.g. cultured beef) have become a hot topic. But how does the US public perceive them? And what psychological factors contribute to public willingness to support them? doi.org/10.1007/s10584… (1/n)

Individualism is a significant barrier to climate mitigation.
We evaluated eleven behavioral interventions aimed at stimulating climate change mitigation, along cultural individualism and collectivism orientations in 63 countries (N=59,440).
The more individualistic a nation,

The new megastudy on climate action is a remarkable team achievement, offering important insights for behavioral climate research👏

Sadly, its mixed results have led some to dismiss behavior change and behavioral science🤔 Here's why this is a mistake🧵

I think we vastly overestimate the power of different terms on beliefs and behavior.

This study has changed my mind about the power of terms that otherwise possess the exact same meaning. Choosing between synonyms is probably much less important than the messaging we use.

An interesting new behavioral science study — with ~60,000 participants across over 60 countries — looks at how different climate messages affect people.

Not surprisingly, “doom & gloom” messages were shown to be highly shareable, but counterproductive to taking action.
