Beautiful ancient frescos have been uncovered at Pompeii, the Roman city buried in an eruption from Mount Vesuvius in AD79.

A third of the ancient city is still covered in volcanic ash and could contain even more hidden treasures

Just look at those colours! They are from a Black Room, in which the walls were painted black, the floors were white mosaic. Black Rooms were not all that common - I've seen paintings from a few, but this room looks particularly august.
