dub birder sent me this photo of the Cape May Warbler yday & it reminded me of a photo I took of the Myrtle Warbler 12 months ago. Discovering two American wood warblers within a few miles of home, less than a year apart, is the stuff of birding fantasy… & Scilly provides! 💛

She phoned me at work to say she had a bird she didn’t recognise. I went to look & found this!!! She was rockpooling with the kids by this point & I shouted to her “You’ve found a Myrtle warbler!” She replied “Is that good?” 💛

Wait for it....73!! Yes 73!! Palpita vitrealis last night (13/11) including 60 in one trap! Incredible spectacle. Amazing supporting cast too. More southerlies tonight as Nicole hits, tonight tho much windier and fresher compared to last night's muggy mizzle.

An unbelievable 26 Palpita vitrealis so far at the Longstone moth traps this eve including 17 in the grass around a single MV! Masses of common migrants about too

Oooo it could be a good night for mothing on Scilly - 4 Palpita vitrealis already at the actinic inc. 3 on the wall together! (pictured w. Whitespeck) & 1 fluttering around a nearby MV! Lots of common migrants on the various walls too. Biggy tonight

Hard to believe we had three Diasemiopsis ramburialis on 24th of Oct! Even on Scilly its a super rare migrant moth only reaching us during spells of persistent warm southerly winds. I failed to photo all three together but the individual pics show their beautiful variation😍
