To the professional journos I've engaged with the past few days: I'm a journalist, not a source.

I have lots of DMs from journos asking what I saw at CCNY yesterday but few replies from editors who want to pay for my work.

For as long as he can remember, Manny Velasquez-Paredes had the names of each LGBTQ Center team member written on a white board. 

Each time someone left, he covered their name. Last Friday, he covered his own.

The aftermath of the dismantling of the “Gaza Solidarity Encampment,” which was nearing its second week.

A casual reminder that while college journalists across the country are doing a phenomenal job with boots-on-the-ground reporting, covering the communities they're engrained in, they are also literally juggling FINALS. Student journalists are doing amazing work right now holding power to account and reporting from the front lines of college campuses. Most of them are doing this work unpaid. Support them and lift up their work.

These Columbia Journalism students need freelance assignments, not interview requests. They are on the cusp of graduation, desperate for experience and clips, with a front-row seat to the biggest story in America—pay them to tell it!

I absolutely concur with SPJ and Ashanti here.

Our student journalists are doing amazing work. Their advisers, staff and faculty also deserve respect and protection of their rights as journalists.

This cannot continue.

So now the NYPD is threatening student journalists and the Dean of Columbia Journalism school?! In case there is any confusion, student journalists have the same protections under the First Amendment as professional journalists. This is completely unacceptable! #JournalismIsNotACrime
