The first Razorbill has been found on an egg. That is the latest for six years and four days later than the long term average. #lateseason

Interesting looking Gull in roost tonight on the Isle of May. Happy this is a leucistic Herring Gull, as general shape and size, head structure and bill colour/length all indicate Herring Gull rather than Iceland/Glaucous.

This is a great listen on how the Bass Rock’s gannets are regaining strength and numbers after avian flu wiped out many thousands of them, and how North Berwick’s been affected by storms. Top work from Martha Kearney, Maggie Sheddan and Scottish Seabird Centre.

Yr 2 post HPAI. For us a more subdued colony. Perhap some that lost a partner have not returned. Same gaps but a settled feel. Too early for immature & wandering prospecting adults

(1/3) It’s officially the thirtieth birthday of the Breeding Bird Survey. Happy Birthday Breeding Bird Surveys! On 4 April 1994 at approximately 07.05, the first bird species ever recorded by the fledgling survey was noted. It was a Skylark in the Vale of Belvoir, Leicestershire.

This was taken last night, with the beams of light from the lighthouse cutting through the mist and rain on the Isle of May. It was very atmospheric (photo just taken on my phone).

Hawfinch arrived on Isle of May, ringed by Isle of May Bird Obs this is 11th in last seven years, certainly increasing on here. And LOOK at that bite mark left on David, the ringers finger!
