Hoping to cheer up my tennis mad boy. He ended 2023 on a high, hitting a 1000 stroke rally with his coach. But 2024 has brought a neck muscle sprain and now tonsillitis and he's sad not to have made it back on court yet. Any advice Andy Murray Jamie Murray judy murray ?
Day 3 of #comparativegenomics Microbes, Microbiomes and Bioinformatics DTP week & Gemma Langridge taught us genome rearrangements are a another #variation to watch for in #bacterial #genomics . Emma Waters couldnt resist getting involved at last. Over to Eleanor Hayles & Alice Nisbet to lead your activity on Friday!
Claire Jenkins wrapped up day 1 of this Microbes, Microbiomes and Bioinformatics DTP training week by explaining how the wonderful team UK Health Security Agency's Gastrointestinal Bacteria Reference Unit do comparative genomics to investigate outbreaks to better public health. We are honoured we got a rare talk out of Claire #AcedIt
This year's new intake of Microbes, Microbiomes and Bioinformatics DTP students are enjoying getting stuck into Gemma Langridge's #comparativegenomics for week 4 of their bioinformatics training, with last year's students Alice Nisbet and Eleanor Hayles ably assisting #futurePIs
Yesterday we went for a paddle along the Rivers Wensum & Yare thanks to PubAndPaddle Norwich. Everything might hurt this morning, but a fun & mostly senere time was had by all, with ice cream & great food to help along the way. Also spotted some great wildlife including a seal 🦭
My S.capitis paper is finally here. It’s been a journey & I’m so happy to finally be getting my research out in the wild. Thanks to everyone for putting up with me…. But mainly Mark Webber Gemma Langridge john wain for your support

Reflecting on a fantastic first trip to Zurich to join Elisa's PhD committee. A beautiful location to hear about exciting science. Thank you for the invitation to speak University of Zurich and to AdrianEgli78 for hosting. Also wonderful to see Helena again!!
New preprint from us at Quadram Institute in collab with Oppilotech Ltd & Innovate UK, we used TraDIS-Xpress to determine the mechanism of action of a novel antimicrobial & mechanisms of synergy with other drugs. Great example of the power of functional genomics! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
I'm excited to say i'm recruiting for a bioinformatics post-doc (3 yr) for my group at Utrecht University.
The project looks to advance precision risk assessment of foodborne pathogens utilising pan-genome graphs and machine learning.
Appreciate a RT!
