'Among new multifamily homes in Minneapolis, the average number of parking spots per new unit of housing has fallen from about 1 spot per unit to under 0.75 spots per unit.' Zak Yudhishthu for Metropolitan Abundance Project.

The San Diego ADU Bonus program has been a huge success, and one that will compound in coming years, so naturally the sharks are circling.

My previous tweet lacked important context.

An annual 70M ton reduction in CO2 from infill housing is a conservative estimate.

Directing homebuilding to the most walkable areas could reduce annual CO2 emissions by *200M tons*!

Patrick is right.

Beyond the regression analysis--imagine what'd have to be true for housing scarcity to be better for families than housing abundance!

Will families be willing & able to have more children when they can afford more beds on 1 income? It's a silly question

Traffic citations issued by SFPD are down 97% (!!) since 2014. This is alarming and it's part of why our streets are dangerous and reckless driving is tolerated.

We must enforce the law - this must change to save lives. Supervisors need to demand better.

Inclusionary zoning is actually hot garbage. It makes cities build MUCH less market-rate housing and barely increases below-market-rate housing at all, while raising rents for average people!

Spot on from the Washington Post editorial board:

Environmental review is being exploited to block clean energy projects.

“Nearly two-thirds of solar energy projects were litigated, as were 31 percent of transmission lines and 38 percent of wind energy projects.”

His current slogans notwithstanding, Aaron Peskin has long been San Francisco’s housing obstructionist in-chief.

He also opposed car-free JFK.

He’s not progressive. To the contrary, he’s quite conservative.

Now he’s running for Mayor.

Hard pass.

Minneapolis Fed found that 10 new market rate units frees up 7 lower income units which means IZ, even at its lowest levels, is killing much more affordable housing than it creates.

Inclusionary zoning needs to be banned. It makes the housing crisis worse.

Good analysis by Shane. looks like LA would be best off it it provided more permissive zoning w/out IZ. increase in market rate homes would reduce rents and homelessness, and city could spend $100 mil annually to build or lease similar # of apartments for low-income households

Inclusionary Zoning is bad and the state legislature should stop requiring it in zoning reform legislation.

This report on inclusionary zoning by the Terner Center is one of the most comprehensive I've ever read. In my opinion, inclusionary zoning is robbing Peter to pay Paul. It is a de-facto tax on renters that actually increases average rents. Time for the legislature to step in.

If Texas Republicans slapped parking requirements, design rules, lengthy public outreach periods, multiple veto points and a complex financing structure on low-income housing, everyone would be rightly denouncing these rules as implementing a de-facto ban.

Yet when CA does it...

Huntington Beach Republicans and SF “progressives” alike understand that requiring developers to rent a high percentage of their new units at a loss is a way to NIMBY new housing in wealthy neighborhoods while posing as friends of the poor.
