Today an Alberta lawyer argued that requiring lawyers to take an indigenous cultural course was the same as forcing indigenous children into residential schools and I’ve never heard a more powerful argument for requiring lawyers to take an indigenous cultural course. #ableg

Too many people think decolonization is making a less toxic version of the current system, like having diverse oppressors instead of all white oppressors. True decolonization dismantles systems of oppression, not diversifies them.

Today, a Special Meeting of the Law Society of AB was held following a petition filed by 51 lawyer members. The resolution was soundly defeated. Thank you to all who came out to speak against, and those who voted against.
