Another great piece of work by The Michael Marmot Institute of Health Equity UCL - I understand that they are working with local authority level data - but I suspect that the impact on places like Sheffield with high internal inequalities is masked by the middle class in the city Kate Josephs greg fell FFPH Oliver Coppard

As an ambitious and outward looking city, expert challenge and insight is critical as we develop our plan for growth. Great afternoon with Torsten Bell Sheffield Chamber today, galvanising partnership across the city and region

This blog shares some of the things I learnt when we (Research and Enterprise at Leeds Beckett) undertook a series of interviews on approaches taken by Health Inequalities leads in Integrated Care Boards to use funding that was ring fenced specifically to address health inequalities Paul Ogden The Health Foundation

This system is such a mess. Carers allowance is so low people face hunger & debt. It's so badly designed it misses many who really need it AND disincentivises work. While the government is desperate to get more people working more. It's not compassionate, just or effective.

Spoiler:

🤷🏻‍♂️ Most of these aren’t ‘quangos’
🤦🏻‍♂️ 3 are examples of UK wide good practice
🤷🏻‍♂️ 4 are required by govt
🤦🏻‍♂️ The vast majority are unpaid

Given your Party’s record in govt, you might want to consider bringing a few more experts in to give you some advice Nick Fletcher MP

If only Victor Adebowale ran this country! Brilliant short answer to the question “does Britain have a sick note culture with a lazy workforce?” -NO
As Victor says, I have never met a patient in over 20 years who doesn’t want to work. Sickness benefits are also not financially lucrative

A big thank you to Natalie Johnson from Seven Hills Primary Care Network for coming to talk to our Men's Health Group and Diabetes Group about stroke prevention today. As you can see, we had a lot of interest - 34 participants came along to learn from the session! 🙌

This documentary is deeply affecting and a powerful demonstration of the harms caused by harsh benefit rules. Plans to make the system even harsher will leave more people at risk of poorer health and shorter life expectancy

Article on the vital role of community anchor organisations in bridging health inequalities through arts and culture. It's time for policymakers and commissioners to recognise their invaluable contributions!

With both of the pieces of work what was as important as producing academic research for peer reviewed publication - it is at least as important that our research is used to help infrastructure organisations influence policy and practice on behalf of their members.

We learnt so much about the important role that community anchors play in building strong relationships with people who experience inequality - the NHS needs to understand and fund this! Social Prescribing is an inefficient way of trying to do this
