Violetta Thurstan was born #OTD in 1879.

Thurstan showed extraordinary bravery nursing in WWI, despite suffering serious wounds and being taken prisoner. She received the British Military Medal in 1917, as well as medals awarded by Russia, Belgium, and Serbia. 🥇 #HistNursing
