I've had a chance to reflect on the Slugger O'Toole event in the Look North! The North Belfast Festival
The 1st thing which I knew but was confirmed is that our community has its shoulder to the wheel.
2nd thing is, there's plenty to be done and plenty of opportunities to invest in ♥️

It was fantastic to attend the Look North Schools Poetry event on Friday.

We listened to young people from first year through to upper sixth recite poems with themes about life, the future, sport and living in Belfast. 1/2

Sunday service is in session!
We're in the ornate surrounds of St Joseph's Church to hear MARY ALICE CLANCY (of the Mary Ann McCracken Foundation) give her wonderful talk about the life and times of a historically neglected local hero - DAVID MANSON!

Coming up at 5pm at St. Joe's, Sailortown!

Mary Alice Clancy discusses the life and times of the remarkable DAVID MANSON.
18th century teacher, inventor & educational pioneer. He was also a brewer, whose ales were prohibitively taxed for being too strong!

'It happened on Frederick Street...'
Felicity McCarney reminiscing with Ian Kirk-Smith about the important work of the Frederick Street Quaker Meeting site during the troubles & the wider Quaker community's response to the years of conflict.
An inspiring & moving story

Dr Myrtle Hill & Ruth Taillon lead a fascinating talk on Ulster's fin de siecle cultural powerhouse FRANCIS JOSEPH BIGGER. His dizzying array of pursuits included the Ulster Public House Reform Association, who in 1901, opened Myrtle's local pub The Crown & Shamrock!

Our Katie's design on the cover 🥲 There's so much young talent in Belfast. Let's keep trying to make it a city that supports, values and nurtures creatives.

'I write for my own kind,
I do not pitch my voice
that every phrase be heard
by those who have no choice:
their quality of mind
must be withdrawn and still,
as moth that answers moth
across a roaring hill.'
