We look forward to embarking on this important work with Adrienne Adams and the New York City Council to address the needs of newly arrived youth and unaccompanied minors in NYC.
Governor Kathy Hochul Carl E. Heastie Sen. Stewart-Cousins HAVP must be included in the State's Housing Plan to help New Yorkers experiencing homelessness statewide! Without this crirical program, households will not be able secure and keep their housing.
The incredible, unprecedented turnout for today's New York City Council hearing on the experiences of Black migrants is inspiring.
For far too long, your stories have fallen on deaf ears, and today, you are being seen and heard.
Your voices ensure the need for action cannot be ignored.
New York’s youth are suffering and housing vouchers are an essential tool to combat youth homeless. Coalition for Homeless Youth is making a powerful statement of the need for Governor Kathy Hochul to get behind #havp
🆕 AFC brief highlights the impact of the 100 NYC Public Schools shelter-based community coordinators (SBCCs) hired in 2022–23 & calls on Mayor Eric Adams New York City Council to sustain funding for this initiative in the FY 2025 budget. advocatesforchildren.org/policy-resourc…
1,300 young people are facing street homelessness simply because Mayor Eric Adams has deemed them less deserving of the most basic human right of shelter. This is wrong and unforgivable as is, and the numbers will only continue to grow.

“The city hasn’t taken any steps to deal with the changes that the City Council made, and there’s clearly a role for the City Council to play in providing for the welfare of people in the city,” said Robert Desir of The Legal Aid Society.

🚨Moments ago #Right2RemainSilent passed the Senate Children and Families Committee!
Thank you Jabari Brisport for putting the bill on the agenda, and thank you Jamaal T. Bailey for championing this legislation!
“For newly arrived migrant youth of that age group—17 to 20—it’s rare that somebody will identify them...as a youth who needs to be in school,” said Rita Rodriguez-Engberg Advocates for Children of New York. “They’re looked at as like adults, or they’re overlooked, period.”

'I cannot sleep in a church, or sleep in a mosque, and then wake in the morning and go to school and come back tired.'
Daniel Parra Mejía also got this stat that I haven't seen elsewhere: over 850 single migrants ages 17-20 in shelter as of March 3

We’re so grateful Adrienne Adams is prioritizing making housing more accessible to New Yorkers.
City FHEPS is law — Mayor Eric Adams must implement it, and we’re excited about these proposed changes to make it more accessible!
