May 1, 1988- Five years to the day after his spectacular crash at the same track, Phil Parsons scores his first Cup win in the Winston 500 at Talladega. Parsons passed Geoff Bodine for the lead on Lap 174 and won by .21 seconds over Bobby Allison. Bodine was 3rd.
