Research explored the oxygen levels of critically ill children in intensive care. The study found that with reduced oxygen targets:
💙50 more children would survive in the UK each year
💰 the NHS could save £20 million per year.

#pediatric #sepsis definitions discussion here, relevant for #pem . In our world, sepsis is not a screening tool - we need to treat more than the children who meet these criteria. This definition can be an outcome to drive our research forward on better screening.

Great to see this important PICU trial published, comparing SpO2 of 88-92% vs >94% in critically ill kids. TL:DR conservative oxygen gets you off organ support faster, with no evidence of harm (mortality non-significantly down, but PiCU mortality is low) thelancet.com/journals/lance…
