Actually, there's lots of interest in robustness, distribution shift, etc. It's just that after years, we've yet to make progress. My hot take: perhaps this is some fundamental limitation of ML. If so, we need to start factoring that into judgements of what this can be used for.

I'm really glad someone raised this. I think everyone saying 'this is just a science fair' is wrong. Science fairs are protected environments for minors; NeurIPS Conference is a conference that so far has been almost exclusively for adults. Really hope organizers thought this through.
