Deliberative democracy in action from Scottish Parliament. It was an absolute pleasure to act as a witness at one of the Climate Change People's Panel sessions and hear what they had to say - have a read of their recommendations 👇

The French Law on End of Life has been submitted to Parliament for debate.

This follows the Citizens' Convention on End of Life, where 184 people deliberated for 27 days from Dec 2022 - April 2023, producing 67 recommendations. They will meet President Macron on 26 April.

The misinformation & ignorance is just staggering. Danny Kruger says “we” intended the Convention as a “gift” to the Continent & never intended to sign up only doing so later. In fact, the U.K. one of the FIRST states to ratify in 1951. The Convention came into force in 1953.

No need to say: I truly believe in the potential of the European Citizens’ Panels whichever topic they tackle but in this case, I feel more than ever that they provide a space - diverse, deliberative, respectful, collective - that is too absent in our democracies

As divisions and polarisation increase in anticipation of upcoming Austrian parliamentary elections in autumn 2024, Citizens’ Assemblies could be just what’s needed to defuse tensions. More in my op-ed in Die Presse (in German): tinyurl.com/mr2ajkj5

Happy to welcome a new randomly selected group of European citizens who will deliberate during 3 weekends on the essential topic of “tackling hatred in society”

The last 24 hours have been really hard for disabled children and young people. So here’s my message to them:

“You’re amazing. Don’t let anyone ever tell you, you can’t be included because you can.”

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak just vowed to join Russia & Belarus as the only European countries outside the ECHR if needed to get his flights to Rwanda

If you stand against his plan RT this widely. The country must wake up urgently

The UK must end arms sales to Israel.

If the UK Government are unwilling to act then Parliament should force them to do so.

But that can’t happen whilst the doors to Westminster lie shut.

Parliament should be recalled without delay.
