Find of the day on #diggingbandofbrothers today? Not American- but the magazine of a British or Canadian Bren gun. #archaeology #wellbeing #veterans
An incredibly lovely coin just out! Could it be more American?! 🇺🇸 #bandofbrothers #archaeology #wellbeing #veterans #Aldbourne #diggingbandofbrothers
I honestly had THE best day out today in the lovely little village of Aldbourne visiting a WW2 ongoing archaeological dig!!! I’ve always had a bit of an Archeology vibe after studying it at school and Richard Osgood and his band of merry men and woman could not have made me feel…
A wonderful open day - huge thanks to all. Finding a US M3 fighting knife, grenade handle, hut corrugated iron….A Saxon coin of Edward the Confessor (obvs Norman link!). Also a real highlight to meet the fabulous Chinook Crew Chick (read her powerful book). Currahee! #bandofbrothers
Great excitement on site today as Paul found a US canteen (Torrin has a pristine example), then visited by four of the lovely actors inc Tim Matthews™ - completed by siding original corrugated iron inside our hut. Currahee! #bandofbrothers #archaeology #veterans
Another #FindsFriday - Jenna from the US Navy has just found an American helmet buckle in the 506th hut at Aldbourne! #bandofbrothers #101airborne #Archaeology #wellbeing
#FindsFriday - today at our #Bandofbrothers dig - a helmet buckle strap, Garand rifle clip, grenade pin ring. But what is the buckle with the scale? #archaeology #wellbeing #opnightingale #veterans #diggingbandofbrothers Defence Infrastructure Organisation
Wonderful to welcome the legend Antony Cotton MBE to the #bandofbrothers dig at Aldbourne today! He chose a good one as we now have all the post pads of the hut (for the first time!) & the detectorists found parachute parts. Another good Op Nightingale. #Veterans #wellbeing Defence Infrastructure Organisation
Great first day at Aldbourne on #diggingbandofbrothers - with the base pads of a 101 Airborne hut and the knife of a US serviceman found by one of his 101 successors - Currahee! An ideal way to remember #VEDay79 #archaeology #wellbeing #veterans
Interested in the #bandofbrothers ? Want to see where they lived before #DDay ? The Op Nightingale team has an open day for their Aldbourne dig on Sun 12 May 11:00-16:00 with a chance to see dig finds & also to visit the heritage centre. On the Sports pitch - SN8 2DE #archaeology
Current Archaeology 411 is out and includes my latest column, no 2 on wide wonderful #Wiltshire , including special shout-outs to Richard Osgood Defence Infrastructure Organisation #OperationNightingale and to SOS - Save Old Sarum #OldSarum . #HillfortsWednesday ? The utterly gorgeous model of an Iron Age chariot by Sir Cyril Fox now residing at the Amgueddfa Caerdydd and based on the finds from #Llyncerrigbach . Can you imagine these in showy displays on hillforts?! Wonderful. #Archaeology #ironage #celtic
A real treat to visit Sennybridge Camp 🏴 today and to see the art of German prisoners of war from the Second World War: the conservation of which, led by friend and colleague Kathryn, won the heritage category of the recent Mod Sanctuary Awards. #heritage coflein.gov.uk/en/site/23191/
Splendid and thought provoking session CIfA conference on the alternative approaches to fieldwork publications with Dr Zena Kamash and Leah Hewerdine - featuring the fabulous comics of John S which were so useful at Llyn Cerrig Bach last week #archaeology
