The bollard: a simple, yet effective piece of public infrastructure which 'enhances street life in many ways', including keeping us all safer. And anything but an 'eyesore'!

'A too-wide 59th Street and the two 'Killer Intersections' of Grand Army Plaza and Columbus Circle create a wall of fear and isolation between Midtown and Central Park.'

Another example of how roads can be connecting (for car) and disconnecting (for people) at the same time.

Let's get 59th Street bridging central park and midtown, and feelin' groovy!

'Slow down, you move too fast
You got to make the morning last
Just kicking down the cobblestones
Looking for fun and feeling groovy
Ba da-da da-da da-da, feeling groovy' Paul Simon

To help realize the potential of congestion pricing, and mitigate negative impacts on public space, we must take this opportunity to turn roads that divide NYC into streets that connect us!

Congestion pricing is a great step forward, but now requires that we democratize the use of our street space to prevent the wealthy from further owning, speeding on, & dominating our streets.

Streets like 59th may become even more of a divide, & a danger.

Hayden Clarkin But the sidewalks suck. This images bows to the car culture. There is no community that I can see.

Focusing on urban lovability over livability, and harnessing citizens inherent capacity to give love to the public spaces of their city, can more affordably, quickly and sustainably bring a community to new heights of livability.

Great piece on the problems with Columbus Circle and 57th St, which I think we all know but rarely see discussed. And this is an insightful, thorough write up of problems and solutions, which complements our vision for the start of the Broadway Linear Park.

Disappointing to see the privatizing landscape urbanism dominating the new public spaces along the Gowanus Canal.

Hopefully the next phases can lead with public life to ensure successful, safe and inclusive development.
