Kharkiv day 4. Met with reps of the trade union for disabled employees. Evening meal with Valentina's family & friends in their 16th floor flat in Nawcova. We toasted victory, resilience, courage, international friendship & solidarity over a feast of Ukrainian dishes. Great folk

KVPU 🇺🇦 Ukrainian trade union Throughout today I have felt humbled by the resilience and bravery of these people. They don't understand Russia's invasion & are determined to resist it. They said I was brave for coming to visit - no - their stories need telling & solidarity needed more than ever 😔

After this Valery, its head, took me round the city to visit its provisions and store. Amazing community based work - the street stuff was cool & well used

1. Kharkiv day 3. Met amazing community activists from Street Culture who offer food & clothing aid to displaced persons. Also the nearby city farm which rescues animals from the war that in turn help recovering soldiers and traumatized children. Julia here just remarkable..

This is North Saltvitka Kharkiv whose mile of residential flats took direct artillery fire from nearby Russians after the invasion. The middle pic shows the public library on the ground floor of one block. These people had done nothing to provoke such methods of 'liberation'.

Great meeting with Vasyl this afternoon; he coordinates the work of the LGBTQ organisation in Kharkiv 'Spectrum' - personal support and temporary refuge shelter. He says the biggest problem for them is the war - and the fear for safety and marshall law that goes with it.

Kyiv's palatial railway station has a fantastic UNICEF staffed family and play area - offering advice as well as recreation - for those whose family life disrupted by Russia's aggression, at a place of farewells as well as reunions. Social Work Scotland SASW
