HAPPENING NOW: ATCEMS giving update on opioid overdose outbreak.

This week, EMS responded to 75 overdoses. Medical examiner reporting 8 total deaths.

400+ doses of narcan distributed “appears to be making an impact”.

Just 7 overdoses today, compared to 37 Monday FOX 7 Austin

I rode out with our ATCEMS Community Health Paramedics in District 3 to help distribute Narcan. Narcan saved lives during this overdose outbreak. Dozens more would have certainly died if not for the 200 Narcan kits our medics distributed.

We are closely monitoring this situation. ATCEMS has been responding with a heroic effort, treating at least 30 patients and further distributing Narcan kits in the area. Please see the following directions from EMS, and call 911 immediately for suspected overdoses.

On scene: The Austin Fire Department says they responded to a house in E Austin for a disturbance with multiple explosions involved. ATCEMS treating patients for non-fire-related injuries.

Neighbors tell me this house has had problems in the past including a recent shooting.

Motorcycle collision with CPR in progress on an adult patient 10200blk Lime Creek Rd (19:04 x-street Travista Dr) Multiple first responders, including STAR Flight, responding. Expect #ATXTraffic delays/closures. Avoid if possible. More information to follow.

Recently, AFD responded to a house fire in N Austin with heavy fire &1 person trapped inside. Crews located the person & rescued them but after extensive resuscitative efforts were unsuccessful, ATCEMS obtained a deceased on scene pronouncement. Prayers to all involved.

Austin HSEM launched its Bomb-Making Materials Awareness Program today at a joint media event with Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency , Austin Police Department Bomb Squad, Austin Fire Dept ATCEMS , Texas DPS .

There were more than 30 suspected overdoses in Austin on Monday, including four people who died.

I’m thankful for the rapid response by ATCEMS and Austin Police Department to these overdose incidents. We’re working as quickly as possible to distribute Narcan kits and will continue to educate members of the public on harm reduction strategies.
