Finally got around to pulling my dash cam footage from the #BobcatFire on 9/19 from Big Pines Hwy and Largo Vista. Smoke Whirl or “Smoke-Nado” as some like to call it. Rich Thompson provided me with the meteorological explanation of this phenomenon. (1/3)
PINK ROAD: the road up to Mt. Wilson & the observatory is coated in Pos-Chek. It looks other worldly driving the road (closed to the public). The #BobcatFire has come close but firefighters have held the line. Santa Ana winds and extreme heat threaten to make the situation worse.
With all of the surrounding devastation in the forest, the Observatory is becoming something of refuge for the displaced, including our most recent ursid addition, 'Apple Cider'. #bobcatfire
NEW RESCUE: We recently welcomed this #BobcatFire survivor to our CA Sanctuary! The man caring for her contacted us when he realized her needs were significant.
Against all odds, this young turkey survived a wildfire, found her way to someone kind, & is now safe at Sanctuary.

The #ChantryFire burning in the Angeles National Forest north of #Arcadia and #Monrovia saw a large air attack today and only burned about 4 acres. No structures under threat and it burned in the scar of the 2020 #BobcatFire . KCAL News
Helitanker 37S lifting from Fox Helibase in Lancaster en route to the #BobcatFire earlier this week to assist with hot spots. The #BobcatFire , now 98% contained, has been tested by strong winds. Smoldering continues in the interior, but the containment lines have held strong.
The #BobcatFire started a little less than a year ago on September 6th. A year later, we are starting to see significant regrowth in the fire’s footprint. This is a testament to the resiliency of the land and why we place closure orders after a fire to assist in regrowth.
